We saved $1000 by doing this ourselves!! We wanted a farmhouse table look, but we didn't want the same one everyone else has. Nor did I like the roughness or the cracks the other farmhouse tables. There are so many tables out there that are not even real wood. We needed something real and that would last a lifetime.

The construction is a typical 2x4 frame and 4x4 legs with 2x4 center supports. We used 45 degree 2x4 brackets screwed into the 2x4 frame at the corners so legs can be removed. We finished the edges with 1x4's glued to the 2x4 frame for a more refined look. The center piece is composed of two pieces of knotty pine we spotted at Lowes. We used biscuit joints to marry all the pieces together including the 1x4 border. Then to attach the table top to the frame, we counter sank the screws and them topped them off with wood plugs. I would've stained the wood plugs if we had used a less busy top. Result- A gorgeous table we will have forever.
